[TV] Build your fantasy Star Trek crew

So, seeing as there seems to be alot of new and old Star Trek watching lately, I felt like doing this thread. Build your dream Star Trek Crew.

Here's mine:

Captain: Jean Luc Picard
First Officer: Kira Nareese
Science Officer/astrometrics: Spock
Doctor: the EMH from Voyager (it was a toss up between him and Bones)
Chief Engineer: Jordi Laforge
Helmsman: Sulu
Head of Security: Worf
Councilor/Entertainment/Comic relief (couldn't think of a consistant title for the likes of Neelix, Quark, Troi, etc...): Quark
Communications: Uhura

I really wanted to have Data on there, but I just had to have Spock as Science Officer.

Captain: Sulu
1st Officer: Jadzia Dax
Science Officer: 7 of 9
Doctor: Bones
Helmsman: Riker
Chief Engineer: Scotty
2nd Engineer: O'Brien
Head of Security: General Martok
Bartender: Quark
Counsellor: Morn
Red Shirt: Kim

Captain: Sisko
1st Officer: Data
Science: Spock
Doctor: Bashir
Helm: Sulu
Engineer: O'brien
Tactical: Worf
Security Chief: Odo
Bar: QUAAAARRRRK

And now, the anti-crew! The worst choices for each position

Captain: Sisko
1st Officer: Chekov
Science Officer: T'Pol
Doctor: Polaski
Helmsman: Wesley
Chief Engineer: Carey
2nd Engineer: depowered Q
Head of Security: Yar
Bartender: Troi
Counsellor: Odo
Red Shirt: Worf

Sisko is two things; a man called Hawke in outerspace and far too closely tied to an nigh-omnipotent alien race that has no concept of time.

How does that make him a worse captain than Archer?

Captain - Kirk, cause despite his rep, he was a pretty by the book guy in the old show. He usually had a better handle on situations than most of the other captains.
First Officer - I would go with Riker, but two Casa Novas would not get along. Can I promote Data?
Science - Spock, because he's always the smartest mother fucker in the room
Doctor - Phlox, because he's neato
Security - Odo, Odo's a proper cop
Tactical - Worf, Worf was always better at shooting weapons at other starships than security
Helm - I'm gonna throw a bone to the character that Enterprise refused to, Mayweather
Engineer - Fuuuuck, this one is hard, there are a ton of rad Star Trek Engineers. Geordi but O'Brien can handle the transporters.
Bartender - Quark, because Guinan was laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame.

From a Star Fleet command point of view, do you want to give the job to someone who essentially has another boss who's Q like in nature and himself is religiously revered?

I do think that the Avery Brooks is a fine actor and did very well in the role and made many stories compelling, but I don't like all the extra baggage that comes with the character of Sisko/Prophet.

Sure, but he's still a better Captain than Archer was. Archer was a lunatic, Sisko despite all his extra baggage was still good at his job.

Sisko knows when to put aside his personal life and get it done.

So are we assuming same positions just swapping characters for this? Or could I switch people into new roles if I wanted to?

Captain: Sisko, after he's grown the beard.
1st Officer: Chekotay, because he was able to work with Janeway without fucking murdering her.
Ops: Data, because he can do it best. This covers science, navigation, and other shit.
Tactical: Tu'Vok, who actually did a good job with the limited resources. Odo is tempting but also too much of a wild card.
Helm: Paris from Voyager. Bit of a hotshot but also good at his job.
Engineer: O'Brien. Full stop. Man is a warhero, family man, and does the impossible. Makes Scotty look like a punk.
Docter: The Doctor from Voyager. Man has no bedside manner but again, does the impossible.

I'm surprised by how much of the Voyager crew I picked.

I say Janeway was worse than Archer. For all his flaws, Archer didn't coddle multiple mutinies.
Perhaps, but he didn't have to. Toss them in the brig until they make a stop at a federation outpost for longer term sentencing.

If janeway imprisoned everyone that disobeyed her indefinitely, they'd have locked half the crew in quarters by the end of the show. Of course she could have tossed them out airlocks too, but I think you'd be running out of cannon fodder pretty quickly if you rent more forgiving than you might have been in home turf.

If she had been firm from the start, maybe she would have had to space one guy. But that would have made the subsequent mutineers think much more carefully.

Archer is terrrrrrrrrible. His choices ranged from irrational to outright lunacy.

I do not like Voyager, but Janeway has a better head on her shoulders than Archer ever did. I guess that's what happens when you make command staff decisions based on who's father built the engine.

Captain: Han Solo
First Officer: Lando Calrissian
Science Officer/astrometrics: C3P0
Doctor: 2-1B
Chief Engineer: R2D2
Helmsman: R2D2
Head of Security: Luke Skywalker
Councilor: Obi Wan Kenobi
Communications: Princes Leia

Captain: Mal Reynolds
First Officer: Zoe Washburn
Doctor: Simon Tam
Chief Engineer: Kaylee Fry
Helmsman: Hoban Wasburn
Head of Security: Jayne Cobb
Councilor: Inara Serra

Man, I was just about to come in here and put yoda in every position.
"Hailed we are, Captain."

"On screen. Captain Yoda this is, of the starship USS Dagobah. Violated the neutral zone, you have. Withdraw, you shall, otherwise arm phasers, we shall."

"Locked on us, they have, Captain."

"Weapons locks lead to conflict, conflict leads to destruction, destruction... leads to suffering! Erm... shields up, I mean."

Whereas Picard, Kirk, Sisko and Janeway had had lots of experience as captain before they became captain? o_o
The federation was young as well, and there weren't as many rules, therefore he had even less guidance as to how he should act in given situations.

In fact, one could posit that he wrote the manual for most of the policies based on what he tried and how it worked out for him.

Fair enough, but he said Archer was a rookie captain - not that Starfleet was young and unformed. That I can agree with, and it is a reason for some slack. Not enough to save him, but still :p

The other captains had much more experience. I think Archer has hardly been in space.

Sisko wasn't a captain until the start of season 4. I literally just watched the episode where he gets promoted the other day. Prior to that, he was only a commander.

That being said, he would have at least had experience on a starship. Enterprise was literally about the first time the Federation commissioned a ship for exploration that could be self sustaining.

Well, it was about the first ship that could go faster than warp 2 or 3.. and warp 5 is actually about 10 times faster than 3, and more than 30 times faster than 2 (the warp factor scale is not linear).

So there were other ship captains before, but the difference was practically the difference between roller skates and automobiles for how far you could get around. Faster warp technology meant that Archer was running into all kinds of crazy mindblowing shit before starfleet figured out it needed a policy and standard procedure for what to do when you encounter mindblowing shit. This was before Kobayashi Maru, this was before earth even had heard of klingons.
