Explosion at boston marathon

I just now heard about this. Holy fuck! Initial reports look like 2 separate bombs set to go off. This is conjecture, but it sure makes sense.

Obligatory warning to take all early reports with a grain of salt.

Regardless of injuries and/or fatalities, though, this was a terrible thing to do.

This really makes me nervous - our company CEO's run in the marathon every year and showcase new equipment. I hope they're okay!

I don't like it when things like this happen, it breaks my heart.

AP News says Newtown families were in the VIP section right next to the explosion. The last mile of today's race was dedicated to the memory of the Newtown shooting victims.

I saw the same kind of bullshit on the facebook page about "gun control" and "obama's fault". I also saw "let the blacks, Mexicans and liberals vote and this is what you get." Quality, quality individuals.[DOUBLEPOST=1366058973][/DOUBLEPOST]By the way, NBC is reporting they were told 2 devices did not go off but were found. If this turns out to be true, then they have fantastic evidence to follow up with. Unexploded devices will yield MUCH more information than trying to piece together data from an actual explosion.

Wonder if they destroyed them both with their water cannon, and if so, how much evidence that leaves for them?

Cnn is saying one device but they water cannoned the shit out of it so it's in a lot of pieces too

Wow, this is surreal. I have stood in that exact spot many times. I used to walk around there at lunchtime when I worked in Boston.

Maybe it's too soon to say this too, but I'm a little miffed at the BPD after all the kerfluffle they've been raising for the last few years over "suspicious devices" like the mooninite promo rigs. They come down like a ton of bricks on every bit of art or promotional display, but when it comes to security for the boston frickin marathon suddenly they're caught completely flatfooted by actual explosives.

Squashing liberty in the name of security is even more appalling when it fails to actually promote security.
