Plain white bread is gross. You might as well be eating carbohydrated styrofoam. Now, that isn't to say there aren't awesome white breads (such as rad ass french breads and the like) but like a loaf of white bread is awful. That could be my childhood bias where my father and grandfather routinely shit on anything that wasn't whole wheat.

I love, LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE, a soft ass french loaf covered in butter when eating a bowl of soup. Dipping it in so the bread's soup soggy and the butter is melting is maybe the world's most delicious thing.

This man speaks the truth. White bread might as well be garbage for you. Whole wheat is where it's at.

Whole wheat for most uses or beer bread that I made myself as a special treat. But I try to avoid any of it as much as possible.

Except garlic bread, i could eat it for every meal. Or just all the time without stopping.

White bread was never in my house when I was a kid, so I'm not used to it. It doesn't taste bad necessarily, just really sweet compared to other breads.

I'm not a fan of the white bread that you get in grocery store loafs. Had it as a kid, when I didn't have much choice. It truly fits its synonym as bland and boring. I much prefer sliced wheat or a roll, something different or with a flavor. The best bread I can remember was a baguette used for a lunch time chicken sandwich from a side-of-the-road grill on Moorea. No surprise that the French influence results in excellent bread. Guys just fire up their own grill and cook chicken and roast vegetables - no license, no hassles, low prices. Since I was the last customer and he was ready to pack up, he threw in the remaining potatoes and onions at no charge. One of the more memorable sandwiches I have had. Man, I take a lot of travel food pictures.

While the only time I will ever buy cheap, "Wonderbread-esque" white bread is when I'm absolutely broke, I do prefer the wider loaves of white bread varieties like "Milk and Honey" or "Old-Fashioned Buttermilk" or even Potato bread if I'm going to be making sandwiches, because unfortunately I equate all of the other, darker breads with breakfast and just can't get over the combination of sweet bread and savory toppings. This may have something to do with the fact that for most of my senior year in high school I ate nothing but Oatnut or Sweet Dark Whole Grain bread with a little butter for breakfast because I was trying to gain weight and not be cadaverously thin anymore.

I do like a good beer bread, especially a good honey beer bread, and good artisan breads, when I can find and/or make them.

Man... one of the best lunches I ever had was at my sister's house. She make a beautiful salad and served a biiiig piece of french bread on the side with herbed goat cheese smeared on top. Oh, bread. You are wonderful, and I don't care how many trendy diets tell me you're a bad friend.

"Old-Fashioned Buttermilk" .
Yes! That's what we usually use for sandwiches.

Our Target has a pretty large grocery section (don't know if it's actually a Super Target or what). In their Archer's Farm brand they have apple, blueberry and cinnamon-raisin breakfast bread. They are really good! I use the apple one to make french toast.

Is there a better bread to make a grilled cheese or toast other than wheat? I do not know. White bread and potato bread on the other hand taste WEIRD toasted to me.

sourdough for both, particularly excellent toasted and covered with peanut butter and honey

I cannot imagine grilled cheese on wheat. PB&J though is awesome with wheat bread. And eggs sunny-side up are best with rye toast (and scrapple).

Oh man, I haven't had sour dough in forever!

Damn straight, I can't eat jelly or peanut butter on any other kind of bread.

I change my favorite grilled cheese bread to rye, it just soaks up the butter so nicely!

How the hell did I forget that sourdough bread existed?! I love sourdough bread, especially when served along side a good creamy potato soup, or when making sandwiches. Also, rye bread.

I like sourdough as long as it isn't too sharp. My husband, who is from the San Francisco area, loves a really tangy sourdough. The kids both like it as garlic bread.

Ciabatta. By far. Throw some mozzarella, tomato, arugula and pesto on it with some balsamic vinaigrette?? Best thing you'll ever eat.

1. Homemade Jalepeno Corn bread (no sugar) cooked in a smokin' hot cast-iron skillet.
2. Great grandma's recipe for dinner rolls (and cinnamon buns).
3. Pizza crust at a local joint. Thin and crispy crust with a soft, yet chewy center.
4. Wheat, rye, or sourdough for sandwiches.

Honestly, just about any fresh warm bread is welcome at my table!

My love of bread got me in trouble the other day. I was backstage waiting for my cue, and my co-star and I were discussing beer. She said she didn't like it because it tasted like yeast. I said that "I like yeasty things." As soon as those words left my mouth I knew I would regret them.
