I thought the Trek transporters used the same energy to recreate your matter, hence the "beaming".

yeah, I signed aboard this ship to practice medicine, not to have my atoms scattered back and forth across space by this gadget.

Oh ffs. Requirement for an assignment had us responding to a Facebook page for a book. Of course, the teacher couldn't find my posts so now I have a zero for that assignment. Christ almighty, I knew this would happen. Emails away.

Requirement for class... responding to Facebook. Dear gods. I'm old.

In the defense of facebook, I was in a group project once where one of my partners cheated and facebook posts were the only way I was able to prove it was him and not me.

And it didn't require your teacher to sift through a months worth of posts to find if you responded to anything I imagine.

At least it worked in your favor in that case :)

Google is fucking up android. How? With their ads, of course. Doing research into why the hell some of my apps register "ghost touches" on the screen when I haven't touched shit, I found the common thread - the apps in question are all "free with ads" apps. Angry Birds. Bad Piggies. Draw something. There's more. They all show ads as part of their program. Also? Turns out apps that use ads use triple or quadruple the battery power due to additional net connections and geolocation for targeted ads. Additionally, since google controls the advertising APIs (and the alternative ad providers apparently aren't much better) in android apps, there's not alot that most developers can do about it - it's something google would have to fix, but there's not much incentive to do so. Furthermore, there is actually a huge disincentive to actually offer paid apps because the advertising revenue far outstrips the paid app for making money.

And I'm convinced there's something in these apps which turns my Nexus 7's touchscreen schitzoid... it acts like I'm touching it when I'm not (and usually in funky places nowhere NEAR my hands)... and even more irritatingly, frequently thinks I've removed my finger or stylus from the screen when I haven't, screwing up the command mid-drag and likely messing up whatever I was playing/working on like dropping a bowling ball on a spring mattress with wine glasses sitting all over it.

I think you may have figured out why Win8 is so touchscreen friendly. Having ads hard-wired into the software make for cheaper software - but more money for MS.

I think I have developed a peanut allergy :(

I haven't had it tested to make sure but lately when I eat peanuts my throat will swell up slightly. Not enough to interrupt my breathing but enough that I can feel it and my head also seems to get plugged up a bit. Just about everyone in my family has developed a peanut allergy when they hit their early to mid twenties so I suppose I should have expected it but it is still annoying. Now granted since it has only been a slight reaction I haven't cut peanuts out of my life entirely. But I definitely have started to cut way back and to be mindful if the symptoms seem to be getting worse. I also have been making sure to try and keep some benadryl on hand or at least nearby. But still the thought that if it starts getting worse I will have to give up peanuts entirely in very disappointing to me.

I feel ya man, finding out your allergic to something is never a good day. You know what I love? Crab meat. You know what I'm allergic to? CRAB MEAT! And the day I discovered that...not the best day.

I had a similar experience with shrimp when I was 17. One day I can eat shellfish, the next my throat swells up and I feel woozy. It's not fun at all.

I was playing TF2 last night, and a douchebag with the handle "Adam Lanza American Hero" joins up. I asked him to change his name and told him that he was being a douche. When he spoke on his mic I expected some dopey 13 year old voice; nope it was a grown man.

The entire server then proceeds to gang up on me citing freedom of speech, etc...

What the fuck is wrong with this world?

Feh, gamers. Don't they just make you wish you had the ability to teleport through the internet and beat the crap out of them?[DOUBLEPOST=1360426612][/DOUBLEPOST]

Damn straight. First time I found I was allergic to crestaceans, my eyes got all puffy and hurty. I was twelve at the time. It was horrifying. And then I puked.

I dunno what the hell is with this salesperson the last couple days where I work... it's like she's stopped trying. Everything. Comes in completely disheveled, looks like a bag lady with hair reminiscent of an explosion in a steel wool factory. I can't see how she actually is going to sell anything. But she's going out there (supposedly) calling on clients anywho!

She was flaky as hell since day one anyway. Couldn't make deadlines. Everything is a "special case" with her, won't follow SOP and screws up everybody's work flow. Never should have hired her. Our current GM has a horrible, horrible eye for salespeople to hire. I heard she got fired from clear channel. Funny, that was the same story behind the sales manager we hired who defrauded our clients and did jack shit but watch porn and sleep in his office all day. HEY BOSS, MAYBE WE SHOULDN'T BE DUMPSTER DIVING CLEAR CHANNEL FOR OUR NEW SALES HIRES, HMM?

Wait, wait! He watched porn and slept all day? Where do I send my resume?

edit: How does this post need a spoiler?

Well, it didn't work out. Fired his ass. Not for the porn and sleeping and the verbal abuse of his underlings, oh no. Nobody gave a rat's ass til he got new tires for his boat trailer and paid for them in advertising trade. Then, suddenly, it was a big frickin' deal.

But yeah, if you want in on that action, you're gonna have to:

1) move to texas
2) be prepared to put up with me EVERY DAY
3) get paid entirely on commission while simultaneously being lowest bitch on the totem pole.

Seriously, the only people who have survived their first year around here in sales had to borrow money from their family to make ends meet while they tried to get their clients in a row.

I hate it when my boss comes to my desk when I'm not there and goes through my stuff. Like, could you just ask me, please?

I have this file folder of 'returns that may be coming at some point in the next 2 months'. Most of the time, I get sent this backup to late and the return has already gone through our system, so I file away the ones that have already been expensed into a different folder. But, this also means (if they've been expensed) that, really, they're not that important. I have more pressing things I need to do on a daily basis - I'll go through the folder and file things away when I have the time.

But no, she just has to come in and take the folder and get snippy with me about there being so much return back up in there. It's cause everything was expensed before I got the back up! Geez, just, give me a chance to go through the folder or at least ask me about it. I just...am cranky today.

And I ate chocolate yesterday thinking I should give it a chance, and I mantain that, yep, I don't like chocolate - it's gross.

my boss has been leaning on me to be the man, while he is out or is busy, it is both gratifying and annoying at the same time. I don't get anymore pay for being the guy to keep the place running smoothly and fixing others mistakes before they get noticed. admittedly I miss things too, but I feel like the additional hours I have to put in at the office are to basically cover for a bunch of people who are to apathetic and lazy to do the job right the first time.

so yeah, I empathize with ya Kags, I hope the rest of your week is better.

If your computer is password protected, and it should be if its part of any corporate network, then get in the habit of pressing the windows key and L at the same time when you leave your desk at all, and sign back in when you get back.

This locks your workstation so that it refers someone log in using your username and password to access it. It doesn't stop your programs or anything, it just makes sure the next person to use your computer has to login first.

In some industries, say automotive and aerospace, you a required to do this for security, since there are contractors and so forth in the same work area, and they should not have access to some company information.

Also prevents people from posting terrible, terrible things to your Facebook page, or playing various pranks on you.
Yeah, but one of my bosses is so shameless he'll be sitting in my chair when I walk back into my office and he'll just say "hey what's your password?" GTFO MY CHAIR OLD MAN
