Go fuck yourself, Trudeau. I read dozens of comics on a regular basis, and none of them in print. Some of them aren't even available in print. There are even more comics I could be reading, but don't have time for.
I think you missed the self-depreciating humor of that strip.

The self-deprication is based on "oh-ho, comics aren't vitally important!" and has nothing to do with alternatives being available.
He does know the internet is a thing right? And his, as well as numerous other syndicated strips are on web-sites? Guess not.

Oddly, the actual photos look nasty. I'm kind of jaded to food photography, especially overly produced stuff like that. The bacon looks rubbery and cheap, the ice cream and brownie look like they contain more sugar than any worthwhile ingredients, the french toast looks dry and filled with glue. Still, for some reason, the concept still seems really tasty to me.
I've worked around food photographers before... man some of the substitutes that they because of the heat of the lights are ingenious and gross at the same time.
Hey, if you want to cook a turkey with a garment steamer under a bunch of lights, you too can be a food stylist.
