[Rant] Minor Rant III: For a Few Hollers More

I just got stuck with additional 3-4 classes for the next 3 weeks because some guy decided to take 3 weeks off to go home for Christmas.

I guess it's not the additional classes that bother me....more...the fact I haven't been able to spend Christmas with my family for 5 years (although this year, we'll be doing a video call-LIVE!) and the extra work is kind of the salt in the wound. I'll try to make the most of my Christmas though by taking Jun on a surprise two-city tour of Zhejiang provine as her gift. That should be fun at least.

I was wrapping Christmas presents this morning and realized that I must have lost or misplaced one of my friends' gifts. It was a gift card so it's entirely possible I threw it out accidentally because it got lost in a shuffle of papers on my desk. :(

My ebay buyer for my iPhone 4's is not paying. The same buyer bought both. This buyer has 100000 feedback or so, and given that ebay has removed negative feedback, it's all positive. However, reading the actual "positive" feedback, I see that this buyer has a habit of this. Most of the feedback is good, but there's a definite pattern. I have a feeling this company has some sort of auto-bidding robot that bids on iphones, because all the feedback is for iPhones. It looks like they pick and choose the winners they like and ignore the rest.
Finally paid. Today was the day I could dispute the sale. Ebay makes you wait to dispute, and the buyer got the payment in just before I filed. Not that it does much anyway.

Bringing back the rant against shipping companies, I have a customer who's terribly upset and threatening to report me to my managers for failing to follow through on my promise to ship a set of DVDs to her months ago (10/30/12 to be exact) because she has to be in court soon and thinks that the data contained on the DVDs will help her case. I have no idea if the data will or not, but I do have a UPS tracking number showing that the DVDs were delivered 7 days after we shipped them. The issue here is that we require signatures for all of our packages, and in this case a Mr. Front Door signed for the package. This is why we encrypt all of the discs before we ship them, so even if they do fall into the wrong hands, it's unlikely they can be accessed.

We had a storm front come though last night. Rain, lightning, and strong wind. Knew it was coming, just barely woke me up. Went out to the car this morning, and it's freaking covered in dirt. We had dirty rain last night. These storms caused a dust storm west of Dallas yesterday afternoon, and apparently got the dust so high into the storm system that it was basically raining muddy water overnight, and we're a good 350-400 miles from the dust storm area. Had to wash the car this afternoon just to get the rain dirt off the car.

Because I can't say it to the people I want to, please permit me a:

SHUT THE FUCK UP HOLY FUCK YOU FUCKING SELFISH FUCKS[DOUBLEPOST=1356050451][/DOUBLEPOST]Whoo. Thank you.

I'm with you, Chad. Right now I'm thinking of staying off Facebook until the gun thing passes and these assholes (on both sides) shut the fuck up.

I wish my facebook friends were as entertaining as yours apparently are. Like, I've seen gun posts but nothing close to assholish. Just stuff along the lines of "taking away guns won't make a difference" or "we need to start looking at stricter gun control." Pretty bland stuff.

I really do NOT know where to post this, but this is probably as good a place as any.

We kinda like our Olympians up here in Wisconsin. You know - Eric Heiden, Bonnie Blair, the Hamm brothers, you get the drill.

There's this one gal who was a pretty darn good middle-distance runner (800/1600m) who got a lot of honors running for the UW track team and winning nine NCAA individual titles in the late 1980's. She competed in the '92, '96 and 2000 Olympics - not winning any medals, but at least going to those three Olympiads.

She had a squeaky-clean kind of image, doing motivational speaking and all that.

Recently, it had come up that she was having some marital issues. No real reasons were given at the time.

And then - the fecal matter hit the rotary impeller: Kelly Lundy, professional escort was really Suzy Hamilton-Favor.

Well... that's what happens to Olympians that don't win medals. They already usually have to bankrupt themselves just to train for the games and qualify for the team, but after? If you don't win and don't re-qualify, your basically good as dead in the world of professional athletics. You ether become a trainer for the next generation or stuff like this happens. It's sad but no one seems to be interested in changing the all-or-nothing nature of sports anymore...

Got an awesome anniversary present from my parents, a night at our favorite lodge, complete with a spa package so we could both get massages, and $100 dinner certificate for the really nice restaurant at said lodge. It was excellent. The massages were much needed, the food was great, the room was nice and relaxing... and then we went to check out. And they billed me for the entire stay, because even though my mom submitted all of the appropriate forms for the credit card authorization, and the computer system noted that it was supposed to be charged to her, they lost her cc info and just billed it to me instead. She is not most pleased, and unless they manage to fix things before my car payment goes through, my car payment is going to bounce. So much for a nice relaxing weekend.

Oh, and our apartment complex is holding a Christmas package hostage. They're only open from 9am to 5pm, and even if we manage to get home before they close, they're conveniently "out showing apartments" the entire time. Yet they bitch about how many packages are piling up and how nobody ever goes to get their packages in a timely fashion.

Edit: Just checked my bank account. Instead of fixing the issue, the lodge somehow managed to make it worse. They've added a charge of $311.56 to the original mis-charged amount of $784.13. Now, in a few hours when they open, I get to call them and find out how they managed to fuck this up even further.

As a non-US person, I'm missing the joke. National enquiries? Body Odours Anonymous? Association for Humane Treatment of Ugly People? Suicide Hints and Tips Guideline? Handcreams-R-Us?
You don't have to be a US citizen to get it, just have some knowledge of80' s pop songs.

Start documenting all of that and start posting on the appropriate lodge review sites and traditional news sites.

"Right, I just go and get some fresh dish towels while the sink fills up."
=truddles upstairs with only minutes before leaving on holiday=
"Oh c'mon! This room is a disaster! It can't be left like this! We have people coming in to look after the fish!"
=clean clean clean=
"Finally. Nuts, this room is even worse!"
=clean clean clean=
"Ah, a clean house ready for Xmas. Is that water running downstairs?"

=dramatic pause=

"FUCK ME!!!!!"

I'd like to give them one last chance to make this right, because they are our favorite lodge and this is the first time they've ever made a mistake regarding our room; but this is a big mistake, and at this point "make things right" is going to have to include more than just correcting the charge, as - predictably - both of my really actually important payments have bounced.

Edit: And this morning, after I called my mom to have her play the part of the negotiator, the issue is resolved. Their service after the fact was impeccable.

Bought the Shrek collection for my sister and her family as she has 4 kids between the ages of 3 and 14. This was her status on Facebook tonight-

Hope everyone is enjoying their Christmas Eve! Half of us are sick. So we are going to make the most of it watch Shrek and snuggle in our pjs.
FFFFUUUUUUU....

I suppose so. I'll check with her and see where things are at. Maybe I'll offer to take the first one off their hands if they have the first one already and include How to Train Your Dragon as a trade.
