Rant VIII: The Reckoning

If you ordered with a credit card, you could always call them and put in a claim saying you never got it. They might refund your money.

Jet has an membrane infection. Do you know what that means? It means he leaking from every orifice on his friggin head.

The important thing is has it sapped his energy level enough that he's not cracking eggs on your bed anymore? Sometimes there are great fringe benefits of your kids being sick.

It has done nothing to his energy. I has made him impossible to reason with, though.

For my brother, the magic solution I found was roll him up in a blanket and then cinch the blanket with an ordinary belt. Let him inchworm his way around the carpet then.

Kati tied one end of her sari to the couch and the other end to the tyke's leg. Then she'd play this 'game' where the kid would scramble away, Kati would haul 'im back, and the cycle would repeat. The kid loved it. So the lesson here is that restraint is ok, you just have to make it fun.

Is anyone else sick of all these political celebrities? Well what I always wonder 'bout people like them is, can they quit yellin' slogans at each other like a couple of goddamn parrots an' just tell us what they really want?

If I had tons of money and don't *have* to work all the time, I'd probably take up a cause and become an advocate for something too. I agree that they can get annoying, but it's easy to tune out that noise.

Really shitty day at work. I did a return that it turns out I shouldn't have. I'm not going to get in any lasting trouble but it still just highlights how much I've really grown to hate this job. The people are just terrible. I'm not sure if its just because the holidays are here and everyone is being more demanding or what. The way things are being managed keeps getting worse. I dunno. I.used to really love this job but it feels almost completely different. I'm really dreading each shift.

Apparently HBO nixed the idea for a Preacher series because it was too dark and controversial...I hate the world. And apparently the film that IS being made, won't have the scripts actually written by Garth Ennis. So...yeah the jury is out on whether the Preacher movie people have been waiting for years will be good. Of course it would be a movie based on a comic book so that would be true either way.

Have you seen the makeup test they did for Arseface from the nixed series?

Given how controversial Preacher was/is even by comic book standards, I'm not surprised they've struggled to get it on the big or small screen. Even the Walking Dead show has had to cut back on a number of controversial stuff in the comic.

I get it but still, HBO couldn't just make it anyway? When I think of pushing the envelope, I think HBO. I mean they can air a show that is soft-core vampire porn , and a show with a character nick-named "Big Fat Pussy" but not something like Preacher? Of course I guess they didn't mention religion so I guess they weren't as offensive. Freakin' double standards.

AHA HA HA HA HA

*cough*
*wheeze*

Oh... Oh, whew... No. No, sorry.

Sex and violence is the status quo, nothing pushed there. But they won't touch anything that could be deemed anti religion (or specifically, anti christian) with a ten foot pole.

I got 2 grades back today. One C and one F. My first grades in college not in the B range or better. I know its my fault in that I slacked off way too much this semester and took it too hard with the partying. By the time I realized how much my grades had suffered it was basically too late for the class I failed. I was lucky to come back to get that C. Only thing is, given this semester, I'm not positive that I'm gonna pass the rest of my classes. In the meantime, I'm gonna have to find a way to explain to my parents why my grades dropped off so much. Worst of all if my grades really end up that bad, I could be expelled.

I know this is my fault and that theres a lesson to be learned but for now this sucks. If I get kicked out of school, I'm gonna have to move out on my own with no degree. I don't have any idea what I would do in that situation. I guess I just hope my grades end up being passable, and I just have to retake the one class and spend one semester on academic probation. I just feel like if I can stay I'm not gonna screw up that badly again, but I don't know if I'm gonna get that chance.

I've been in your shoes. The good news is that you're not the first person to party in your first year of college and let your grades slip. Just be honest with your folks, make sure you put schoolwork ahead of having fun, and you'll be fine. No one gets expelled after one bad semester.

So, I was fairly sick last month and had to take a little time off. Turn in my sick notice from the hospital to my company, who inform me I wont be getting any salary from my time off sick. The sick notice is only there to prevent further fines, apparently. Now, as far as I remember, the labor law is like this:

Employers' obligations
An employer's obligations include:
  1. Not terminating an employee during his/her statutory sick-leave period. Termination after expiration of a sick-leave period is subject to certain procedures;
  2. If the employee's labor contract expires during his/her sick-leave period, employers must automatically extend the term of the contract until the end of the sick-leave period; and
  3. Paying the employee's sick-leave wage during his/her sick-leave period.
Sick leave

During an employee's sick leave, an employer may not terminate the employee and must pay him/her a sick-leave wage.
Under national law, an employee suffering from illness or non-work-related injuries is entitled to a sick-leave period ranging from 3 to 24 months, depending on the number of years the employee has worked for an employer and his/her total years of work experience.
In Shanghai, the length of a sick-leave period depends on the number of years an employee has worked for an employer; for example, if an employee's contract was signed after May 1, 2002, his/her first year of service entitles him/her to a three-month sick-leave period. Thereafter, every full year of service entitles the employee to an additional month. In other words, if an employee has worked for more than two years, but less than three, his/her sick-leave period can be up to four months.
Sick-leave entitlement does not have to be taken in a single installment. An employee may exhaust his/her leave entitlement at different times.
In Shanghai, an employee's sick-leave period must be extended if the employee has been confirmed by the Labor Capacity Appraisal Center, a government evaluation entity, to have totally lost his/her labor capacity and if he/she is not qualified for retirement benefits (see the discussion regarding early retirement below). An extended sick-leave period must be agreed upon by the employer and the employee. However, in no event may an extended sick-leave period, together with a sick-leave period as demarcated in the preceding paragraph, be shorter than 24 months.
Sick-leave wages
Generally, an employee is compensated during his/her sick-leave period at 60 to 100 percent of his/her regular wage, depending on the employee's seniority. The following chart provides a general overview of the sick-leave wage/subsidy calculation in Shanghai, as an example. Different cities in China may have different local rules and interpretations.

In Shanghai, the sick-leave wage/subsidy of an employee should not be less than 40 percent of the average wage of the enterprise, or 80 percent of the municipal minimum wage for the preceding year, whichever is greater. However, in no event may a sick-leave wage/subsidy be more than an employee's actual salary or the municipal average wage (¥2,892 in Shanghai), whichever is lower.

So I should be getting SOMETHING. I informed my boss that not paying me was in violation of relevant laws. She didn't know the laws, but was sure HR would be following them. She'd double check and get back to me through e-mail. So now I wait.

So yeah, I won. It's amazing how a simple little "So I went on by to the labor bureau today..." fixes things so lightning quick.

You guys, about 3 in the morning my back wouldn't stop hurting so I took a muscle relaxant.

I remember Jet coming in at 5 am, I told him it was to early to be up and put him back to bed. I waited around for 10 or 15 minutes until I was sure he was asleep then went back to bed myself.

Welp, I guess he woke up or wasn't asleep after all...because I have awoken to utter chaos. I mean, GOD DAMN. This muscle relaxant must have threw me for several loops to not hear this amount of destruction.

I could almost cry. I used to hate my parents for say "Santa won't be coming" but this time...of this time it is so tempting to just send every item I bought for him BACK.

(Husband was gone last night so I can't even rant to him this morning. -_-)

Have you tried locking him in his room? It might just contain the destruction to his room, but I know my parents did it to me for a year or two to keep me from wandering around the house at night, gettinginto stuff they didn't want me to.
