Whine like a baby, now with 500% more drama!

Here's whiny: I want to go to work today.

I offered to do four 10-hour days if I could stay home today because they're painting the doors of the apartments and have to leave the apartments open to the world. Ours is done, but the painters keep wandering by and knocking on the door because no one's keeping track of which ones have been painted already. I'm worried that if I decide to leave and try to get in a half-day to alleviate the others, they'll open it up and then just wander off with the door ajar as they've been doing to other apartments.

So I'm stuck here wracking my nerves. I know if I text for my wife's advice, she'll tell me to stop stressing and just accept the day off, but I just can't live by that woman's iron fist 24/7.

I've empirically determined that I dislike replacing hot water heaters. But it appears that we have hot water, and it doesn't appear that it's leaking water or natural gas, so I guess I did an ok job of it.
I feel your pain. Our 40gal sprung a leak in Oct a few years ago, and I remember how much fun it was to reflow the solder on the fittings when the old ones didn't exactly line up, and getting the gas fittings all situated wasn't any better. We went with a 30gal due to price and space considerations*, but we don't have as many inhabitants over here as you do. However, even though it is only 30gal, it has a wicked fast recovery time, so as long as you cut back on the water pressure, it's almost like an on-demand heater. Also, the gas bill went down about 20%, so victory!

I set Oct as the month I would drain it every year, and it looks like I'm a month behind, so thanks for the reminder.

*and because it had a piezo igniter. No more matches! Woo!

My TV be all staticy and what-not. And it always seems ULTRA staticy whenever I'm watching something new. My TV is possessed by a douche-bag static ghost, I'm sure of it.

My lower back hurts. I suspect I twisted it, or it was the crappy chairs we have at work or something, but given that I'm in my mid-40's and that my grandfather (AND great-grandfather) died from prostate cancer... well, you can guess.

And zilch for sympathy from the wife - who's got the "I had back surgery when I was a teenager and wore a Milwaukee brace" thing.

Oh man the list of shit jobs I did when I was young:

- Telemarketing for cellphones. All hours calls, so you can imagine the reactions.
- Burger flipper at McDonalds
- Shelf Re-Stocker at Target over-night.
- Waiter at Olive Garden

I'm sure there's a few more, need to wrack my brain for those shitty repressed memories. Give me a few....
I had some real winners too....I made the mistake of mentioning my time as a balloon dart girl to some people at work....

Apparently all the texts I thought I sent since sometime Thursday... never went out. Well, now they have. My phone locked up when Instagram crashed, and I had to remove the battery to get it to restart. When it had finished booting up, it sent all those texts in a flood. Some of my friends are going to be really confused.

Sounds better than my old phone. Sometimes I'd get texts from people DAYS after they were apparently sent. Course that could just be ACCC's terrible phone reception, but still.

Edit: In the original post I emphasized the word from. Why the hell would I emphasize from? That meat and taters be makin' me sleepy.

'Tis the season... when people don't like thinking about death. I had 5 emails to answer today. That took me... an hour. And I sent a report. Which took me 5 minutes to put together. Whee.

In Biology class yesterday, several of my classmates commented on how long the class was. However the reason the class was longer than normal was many of these students were asking questions in class-NOT ABOUT THE LESSON! Seriously, she was making comments about this A & E show that had like 5 % to do with the comment at hand! If this were early on in the semester I'd be fine with it but this was 2 weeks before the final and hell, we didn't even finish the damn lesson. You lose the right to complain about how long a fucking class was when you're the reason its long in the first place.

Rotten. Ass. Day. Today. I'm going out the door to go to work, and my car doesn't start. At all. It's either the alternator or some other part of the charging system, i think.I have to bum a ride. I find out I'll be covering a class for a few weeks that I don't particularly like. Great. I finally get home, and about a hour after that, the Internet connection gets spotty and dies. That means a call to Comcast. After 45 minutes of trying a number of things, I schedule a technician for Wednesday. I also run all my virus and malware scans because the tech on the phone had run out of ideas, and I thought a virus might be the culprit. Hours later it comes back clean. I shut down the computer and restart it. No Internet. Damn. Then I notice a new light on my wireless router. I check the back and find the problem. I had to unhook the modem and router as part of the Comcast troubleshooting, and in my frustration and haste, I plugged the router in wrong. I fix it, and have Internet again. Four hours invested in this clusterfuck that likely could have been fixed in minutes. Now I need to cancel the tech tomorrow, and try to get my car fixed, which I can't really afford right now.

Damn fuck this whole day.

I feel like such a terrible mom. Mr. Wasabi and I have hyped up going to see The Hobbit with our son. Now I have people reporting back to me that it might not be a good idea to take him because some of the fight scenes are pretty intense. After discussing it, we decided it might be better to wait until it comes out on video so we can be in control if he starts getting scared or upset. I broke the news to him today. He is so disappointed that he started to cry. I feel like a shitbag even though I have his best interest at heart.

Just tell him that if he ever feels scared, you can just leave the theatre. No questions asked, no nothing.

But then again, what do I know...?

That's how I feel, too,@stienman . My motivation is also monitary. It's too expensive to pay for three movie tickets, plus refreshments, and have to leave. That would be $50 or more for the three of us ($30 - 45 for the tickets alone depending on where we go and if they give a military discount).

I can't decide what's better, the Batman joke or the steinman joke.

My own whining: Been doing 10-11 hour days the past three weeks, one of them being my fault, the others because the government is just piling on the workload. They're probably going to get Christmas Eve off and enjoy a 4-day weekend while we come in that Monday and bust our asses on their behalf instead of spending time with our families. I do appreciate the overtime, especially when my wife's employment will become uncertain again soon enough, but usually this is the workload we get slammed with in June and July. Justice department got lazy this year, or maybe certain new regulations confused them, but now they're playing catch-up at year's end at an already hectic time.

Again, appreciate the money, but I'd like to have what semblance of a life I pretend to have.

On the bright side, I know if I was in the middle of a big writing project right now, I know I'd be big-time pissed off as opposed to slightly annoyed.

Brother, I feel your pain... yesterday was a 15 hour day... today is only 12, but it's normally my day off.

As you say, though... the overtime is nice

:(

I'm grateful for matinee pricing - $6 before 4, $5 between 4 and 6 pm. It's an infrequent treat for the kids, and an occasional treat for us. But since we have blu-ray, a projector, and surround sound at home we really only go to the theater if we can't wait, or if we expect it will be significantly better in the theater than at home.

At home we can pause, eat our own treats, lounge on the couch, and confiscate any annoying electronic devices that go off during the movie.

I think each kid has seen maybe 2 shows in the theater this year, and I've been to perhaps 5 movies.
I look forward to creating a similar set-up in the not-too-distant future.

And if your child has to use the bathroom you generally don't have to shuffle across an aisle of people while apologizing and dragging said child along with you.
