[Webcomic] PVP Discussion

True it is nitpicking(one of my favorite hobbies), but I feel there is something there that I can truly criticize Kurtz for. What is said criticism? The fact that Kurtz hardly makes fun of himself any more. He used to make fourth wall jokes all the time, even Jade would joke about how she's designed differently. Now? The characters just try WAY too hard to be real. For fucks sake- BE CARTOONY AGAIN! Kill Brent and have him come back the next comic, have random fictional characters come out of no-where, BE SILLY! I miss the sillyness.
Nono, pre-crisis PvP was a cartoon. Post-crisis PvP is a bad soap/sitcom/reality show mash-up.

What are the remaining "unrealistic" bits of PvP? The panda, which has been toned down a lot and he can't remove due to popularity. Skull, ditto. LOLBat and the Shecky-group of characters...both exist seemingly only to alienate or annoy readers.
As far as Skull goes, he has interactions with his cat, whatshername, and Skecky - and that's pretty much it. None of the other "unrealistic" bits has any connection or bearing on the "main" story anymore.

Bubble, how do you know that Shecky and LOLBat alienate readers? Certainly, a sample of readers from this forum isn't even close to a fair or accurate sample, given how many people here are biased and have their opinions clouded and colored by our past with PvP.

Ravenpoe posted a valid counter and it was quickly dismissed simply so someone could continue complaining about PvP.

Because Scott himself has said in his Twitter and his blog, several times, that Lolbat and Shecky are his "most hated" characters that "generate the highest amount of feedback". I'm guessing that's not POSITIVE feedback, considering the "most hated" denomination.
Admittedly, I don't *know*.

I would find it easy to forgive continuity errors if the end result is entertaining. PvP isn't something like, say, Mass Effect, where a coherent and detailed universe is part of the appeal. (Yes, I realize Mass Effect started tossing its own coherent universe out the window in the second and third games)

Unfortunately, I have to say PvP isn't entertaining enough for me to forgive the continuity issues.

Exactly, I hardly see him have any memorable interaction with the main cast at all any more! Also, the fact that he is a troll is really more a visual aesthetic than it used to be. Back in the old days Skull would bring in some magical gobbilty gook to remind us that he is a creature of fantasy. Now, he could basically just be a fat guy in a suit based on how little relation he has to his old fantasy basis.

The same could be said for Scratch Fury, who as been said before has become a later season version of Stewie from Family Guy, in how he hardly ever talks about taking over the world and is only there to say a joke or to most of the time unfunny. It feels like they've gone through a process of reverse Flanderization where rather than having their personality traits overextended they become mere shadows of what they once were.

Hey, getting a burning bag of dog-doo on your porch still means that someone is thinking of you. Scott's porch is up in smoke, but he knows people are talking about him, and reading his comic.

The actual fuck?!? Skull making a cancer joke?!? An OOOOOOLD cancer joke about Spider-Man getting cancer instead of super powers?!? So the Cole arc is like 2 comics? And then Skull makes a joke that is more suited to Brent? FAT MAN AND LITTLE BOY?!?

Oh, Scott. Scott, Scott, Scott. Love ya, man, but damn is this a lazy and uninspired week so far.

For some reason, I'm not laughing. Not because I've got cancer myself, but something else... something...

Oh right... this is an old joke that wasn't funny the first time. That's it.

Fixed that for ya.[DOUBLEPOST=1354210934][/DOUBLEPOST]I should also note that I've never heard of Foreigner, either, until this comic. Then again, I'm not even remotely big into music. I'm lucky if I can name the song even major bands have played/made.

Yeah, how the hell would Skull know what that was? Wasn't he the childish one who watches cartoons all the time(after originally being a violent troll integrating into society)? What part of Skull's original personality does Skull have left?

Ah, the cancer joke. Marvel actually did this story years ago. Mary Jane turned into a spider monster that goes on a horrific rampage, mutated because their maritals mutated her. Peter kills her. I shit you not, that happened.

There was nothing fresh in that joke. Nothing.

Was that what happened? I thought it was that she just got Cancer and died, Pete buried his suit with her, but then evil stuff happened causing Spidey to dig his suit OUT OF HER COFFIN(because making a NEW suit would be too much trouble) and save the day. Or are there TWO alternate universes where Mary Jane gets Cancer. If so, than Marvel loooooooooooves miserable Spider man.

Either way, this happened years ago and Kurtz just making fun of it now is absolutely ridiculous.

It was an alternate world miniseries. Though if they used that story for One More Day, they would have sent their fan base into a wild, unruly mob, complete with burning effigies of Joe Q.

It just occurred to me that Kurtz said that this year he'd be "working on his writing". He didn't say "improving"... Well played, Scott. Well played.

Wow, me too, and I only click the comic when I read something about it in here I might like to investigate.

One day back to his old form, more or less. Perhaps another one like this in about 2 months time...

Now if only Francis said "Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay" it would be perfect. But it was a an okay joke I guess.
That would undo the learning moment Francis had when he found out what a douchbag thing to do that was, and then have you complaining that Kurtz forgot his own storylines again.

So I would find the joke funny AND complain about it?! PARADOX!

Edit: Or I would just feel confused, whatever is good.
