What, no Pokemon Go thread?

I have one pretty good (91%) Lugia and one okay (81%) Articuno. I don't know about where you guys live, but there are facebook groups and a discord channel here that people are actually using to coordinate raids. I went to an Articuno raid yesterday that had 15 people show up before 20 minutes had ticked off of its timer.

That said, for a legendary, Articuno is trash. Hopefully the other gen 1 birds are better.

Yeah, the "they're too strong to be allowed as defenders in a gym " thing is really bunk.

There is an Articuno raid 1 block from my house right now, and I have no one to raid with. (I even went over to check if there was random people.)

I can never do raids cause they turn off before I get off work and have to travel too far to get into the city to go out and do them before work, especially on the off chance other people are going to be there too to actually complete it. I also don't care for the, what, 2 hour wait for the raid to unlock and then another hour to do it once you see what it is, unless I'm not really understanding how they work.

The only one I was able to do was a 1k cp magikarp alone that happened to be at my skytrain stop.

I don't know if it's a permanent change, but so far since the legendary raids came out it doesn't do the countdown with an egg displayed before the raid starts. Instead the pokemon shows up, and there's a 2 hour window where you can actively raid before it disappears again.

That said, Vancouver/surrounding area has pretty solid facebook and discord communication if you want to try to make sure there'll be something happening by the time you can get to it.

Hmm didn't think about facebook groups. Thanks for the tip.

First raid of the day, first ball. 86.7%IV.
Ok, Next! :D:p

Screenshot_20170801-095645.png[DOUBLEPOST=1501574623,1501574437][/DOUBLEPOST]FYI, Moltres is pretty easy to take down. Being extra sensitive to Vaporeon (water), Golem (Rock), Omastar (both), and generally electricity....He's a goner. We took him down (with 20 of us, admittedly) in less than 30 seconds.
He does deal out a ton of damage though.
As for catching, well, besides my own luck, comparing with others at the raid, he seems harder to land a good ball on than Areticuno (he swoops and flies like nothing else), but once you can get a great throw, he seems easier to keep in. We'll see how that plays out.

It seems like (according to discussion on reddit and thesilphroad, as well as my limited experience) Nanab berries have a lasting effect on the frequency of dodges/attacks. If you use one at the start of the encounter, throw a ball that it'll probably break out of, then switch to your golden razzes, you'll miss a lot less to the random bullshit. Still not a guarantee, but it helps you land throws at least.

Man, there's now an event in Europe with increased unown and a lot of Kangaskhan spawns....but only in selected cities. None in Belgium and all at least two hours drive away. Lots of people here suddenly have ten or more unowns, different types too. I don't have the time to go to any of the cities included in the event....
Also, kangaskhan is a WAY better/more useful Pokémon than Mr.Mime! Dang !

I haven't seen any of the pokemon that you just listed in that post.... sometimes rural Texas sucks.

Unown is literally the rarest spawn in the world, kangaskhan is the regional for Australia, and Mr. Mime the regional for Europe. It makes sense you haven't seen them. U and K are now spawning in those cities like crazy but otherwise almost or actually impossible to find. Mr Mime here is like Tauros in the USA.

I successfully did one raid and it was by myself :(

I got a cute little Quilava out of it. I've tried a few others but we live in a rural area and we're always the only car parked anywhere nearby and I'm always the only one doing the raid.

So no awesome raid Pokemon for me, but I've hatched a Smoochums, a Larvitar that I evolved and I've evolved a Charizard, Venusaur and Espeon :)

(That battery made me think of you @GasBandit )

I can do a lvl 1 or 2 on my own and a 3 with my wife (though a couple have been close). Really wish I could get a 4 or even 5.

I'll point this out again, because it's the only way to realistically do a 4 or 5 raid - check for facebook groups in your area, and (more importantly in my experience) try to find out if there's a Discord server running to organize things. It's the difference here between showing up and finding noone vs doing the raids in a group of 30.

Obviously rural areas are going to be a lot harder than cities, but the top-end raids demand actual coordination.

If I lived in town, I'm sure that there is a Facebook group or something that I could join. The frustrating part about today was that I was doing damage, but I timed out :(

My cousins play, so hopefully we can take down a legendary target family style. Which sounds ridiculous :D

Lugia is pretty tough, probably needs 8 or so people at a bare minimum. Moltres was easier (there's a video of two high-level players just barely beating it on their own!), and I'm guessing Zapdos is going to be around that level. If you can manage a group of 5+ people with a well-chosen team of leveled up pokemon, you should be able to beat it. Worst case, the level 4 raids are way, way easier than the legendaries.

I was downtown today and I had tons of poke balls and a sort of patient husband....and the only nearby raid was for a Weezing lol.
This is how I feel with the wife. She's not willing to wait for even 20 minutes for more people to show up. I'll never have a Legendary! :(

He was cool today. I just wasn't going to hang out for a Weezing. But in general, he doesn't get the appeal. I got to visit the art store which was awesome though :)

What level do you need to be in order to raid? The kids get home soon but they don't play much so they're low level. Against Vaporeon recently I was doing well solo, but I timed out. I think their help would have done it. Teams don't matter for a raid do they?

You can participate in a raid at level 1 if you want to, but depending on what boss it is you might see all your Pokémon get one shot. I'm level 30 now and can do all level 1 and 2 raids solo...level 3 some are manageable if I have the right counters but usually one or two players is advisable. Level 4 and 5 raids depend on the boss - tyranitar is way harder than venusaur for example.
