Starting weight loss.

Blog entry posted by phil, Feb 16, 2012.

phil I'm done with the internet for today.

I've been considering starting to lose weight for a bit now. I caught a glance of myself naked in the mirror, something I normally gloss over, and really took a good look. I didn't like what I saw and decided I've had enough. Today I baught a scale and a journal so that I can keep track of my progress, food intake, exercise and thoughts.

I got on the scale for my first weigh in and was kind of shocked. I thought I had kept my usual weight of about 240. I've weighed that much for maybe 5 years? I assumed I'd maybe gained a little more, but not by much. Well with my clothes and everything on it came to 273. Well, that certainly got to me. I went to the fitness center to use a stationary bike, determined to do 60 minutes...only to find it was closed. So I just put my headphones on nd started walking around my apartment complex. I did essentially a lap before looking at the timer I set. It had been about 30 minutes. I stopped by my apartment to rest a little, use the bathroom and get some water. I shouldn't have took as long a break as I did though. I should have kept my heart rate up, I feel.

I went out for round 2 which went much quicker than expected. I was really happy to hear my timer go off. I was happy I stuck with it the whole way. I know it's not much, but it feels like a good start. I came home and tried to calculate my calories burned which accordIng to my lose-it app should be around 260.

I really hope I stick with it this time. I'm tiered of being fat. I think the journal and daily weigh ins will help. I'm going to try to find an accountability partner. My friend Sean also has expressed interest in losing weight and I'll approach him tomorrow when I see him.

My plan right now is to do the following:
1) an hour of exercise, mostly cardio, per day as often as I can. I'm not going to beat myself up for missing a day if it's legitimate, but seeing as I don't typically work before noon I won't really have excuses.
2) keep my journal up and take weekly progression photos.
3) start keeping track of calories eaten and burned as much as I can.
4) cut out soda completely and high sugar drinks at work.

My first target weight goal is a naked weight of 250. I'd like to achieve that in less than a month but I have no idea what time frame I should really expect.
