I'm thinking blaster rifles are just inaccurate.

So Storm Troopers are considered some of the worst shots in cinema, right? But I'm watching A New Hope right now and two things came up pretty early in the movie.

1) They beat the hell out of the guys with weird helmets on Leia's ship.

Leia's men would have had a decent chance if it wasn't for the sheer numbers of the Storm troopers that would have flooded the ship. They had partial cover and all the troopers were coming out of one door. There SHOULD have been a pile of storm troopers waist high before Vader could come through. It had to have just come down to the fact that while Storm Troopers are too shitty of a shot to hit two droids walking through the middle of their fire zone (even by accident) they're still way better than these other guys who couldn't just focus fire on a doorway the size of a single person.

2) Obi-Wan mentions that the blaster marks on the sand crawler are TOO accurate to be sand people.

Just wrap your mind around that, if you can. He knows that Sand People didn't attack that Jawas because the blast marks were TOO ACCURATE. Sand people are WAY worse shots than Storm Troopers, apparently. He even goes on to say something along the lines of "only a Storm Trooper's precision could make blasts like these"

And these are the same guys who couldn't hit Luke later on even though they were like 30 feet away. It always kind of bugged me that when Obi-Wan and Vader are fighting in the hanger bay, the troopers go over to watch and don't do god damn anything to help. Now I think I know why though. Anything farther than point blank and you risk shooting way off because blaster rifles are just the worst guns ever created.

Somehow, whoever makes these things have a monopoly on the market and just don't need to worry about quality. I guess what I'm trying to say is that when you're in the market for a blaster, support your small business owner.
