The iWhat? Who cares, I've got FLASH!

After loading the latest rom incorporating Android Froyo on my Droid (and finally getting a stable version), I can finally surf the web with full flash support.

I have to say that I didn't really miss flash, up until I installed Froyo and saw all that I was missing. From the flash UI bars that's incorporated into nearly every news site, to flash games, it's just so cool to see it all on my phone. Watching tv shows from their respective websites is also awesome, though it is a bit of a killer on battery life.

Anyone with an android phone that has the ability to update to Froyo (either officially or non) should definitely do it. It opens up a whole new world of web browsing.
    Zig-a-zig ahh.

    ooh ads.

Flash is a piece of garbage. The sooner it is rendered obsolete by HTML5 the better. Much like the 3.5" floppy I'm glad some company is kicking it to the curb and forcing its abandonment.

I'm not going to turn this into a fanboy argument. The iphone is a sexy little piece of hardware. But even if some people don't like flash, I would prefer the ability to run it if I choose.

And trying to say flash is only used for ads is just silly.

I honestly don't care what sort of device it comes from, I just wish the contracts could be had for $20-30/mo.

I can't wait for the update to 2.2. I have no urge to root my phone to get it early though. I'm hoping it comes out before the end of the month. I really want to be able to watch tv shows for free.

I wish verizon's tethering plan was a bit less restrictive. 2 gig limit? That's horrible.

Unless Verizon has different restrictions in different markets (which I don't think is the case) you've heard wrong. Verizon's tethering plan has a 5 gig limit, same as their mobile broadband modems.

Of course, if you have an android handset, it's pretty easy to bypass that, no root required. You would, of course, have to look that up yourself.

Re: The iWhat? Who cares, I've got FLASH!

    From Arstechnica
Like the Evo, the Droid X supports WiFi tethering. The service will be available for $20 a month on top of the regular data fees, but will be limited to 2GB. The device itself will be available for $199.99 after rebate with a two-year contract. Verizon is offering early smartphone upgrades to all customers who have a contract expiring this year.
Are the plans available for it yet? I haven't really checked into it to see if it was on their site at all yet. The only thing I worry about with using a non-sponsored app is that I wouldn't put it past them to slap me with usage fees or drop me if they find I've been playing online games over it.

Ah, looks like they're making a special plan for the Droid X. I haven't recieved all the information on it yet (I actually get all that tomorrow). Currently, nearly all verizon phones except the droid carry a mobile broadband connect feature, which allows you to tether up to 5 gigs of data for $25/month (plus $29.99 unlimited phone data). Almost all handsets have this, even crappy stuff like the enV3.

Maybe they're just adding another "tier" with less usage. I may give the unofficial option a try to see how well it works, we'll see.

I've just got this to say:

HTML5 may very well be the best thing in the world. Flash may very well be the worst thing in the world.

But websites don't use HTML5 right now. I prefer a device that would allow me to access the web as it currently is, as opposed to one that limits the content I can see in in hopes of ushering in the future.

    This.

Lately I've been doing a lot more research and experimenting with HTML5 and I'm really falling in love with it.

As it stands though, Flash is everywhere on the web right now. Who in his right mind would make a browser that actively doesn't support it? That's not forward thinking; that's just dumb.

Exactly.. forward thinking is adding compatibility and support for HTML5, removing it for Flash is just stupid.
