    Alvin Greene, The Hackers Choice

Haven't seen a thread on this, so I figured I would start one.

For those who don't know, Alvin Greene is an unemployed military vet who lives in his fathers basement (according to the news I have read) and who just won the Democratic Primary for Senate in South Carolina, despite having none of the "advertising" we normally associate with a political campaign.

The SCo Democratic party quickly started shouting Republican tampering as soon as the results were in and have gone so far as to now claim that the voting machines in South Carolina were hacked!

    http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2535031/posts

People who have said they voted for him have cited reason as simple as "his name was fist on the ballot" and "his name sounded (soul singer) Al Green"

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/0..._n_613453.html

So is this all just a luck of the alphabet, internet haxors, or a case of life imitating art... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dis...shed_Gentleman.

We have this elaborate system of rewards and punishments: Heaven or Hell, Valhalla or the Abyss, Limbo or Nirvana, or a Dozen in-between.
Most importantly, we KNOW it exists.
So if we charge into battle and end up as a polearm depository, we know that we're going to end up somewhere we deserve.

No one can explain where he got the ten grand needed to file. He comes across in interviews as mentally deficient or worse. One CNN reporter had to stop the interview and ask if he was all right. He's facing felony obscenity charges.

All of which is par for the course in SC, apparently. Dirty tricks are a South Carolina Republican tradition.

I'm tempted to go with the Jon Stewart on this one - his name was first on the ballot, and this is South Carolina we're talking about. There's a very solid chance that this was legit stupidity on the part of a hundred thousand voters. I just want to know where his funding came from.

My other hypothesis is that in a couple weeks some fifteen year old is going to step out of their mother's basement and finally demonstrate how unbelievably insecure these voting machines actually are...

It's already been proven, time and time again, in the lab. However, most places can't afford to replace them now, so we're stuck with them for 20-30 years unless the Government ponies out for them.

What I have heard is that yes, he got elected because he was first on the ballot and people just checked the first one, however the big question is where did he get the money (seeing as he is using a public defender in his court case.) There are already investigations about whether or not someone planted him, as this has occurred before.

The Election Day results are suspicious because in some precincts Greene was tallying more votes received than actually cast.

Even if someone planted him, unless he declines the position, is there really anything anyone can do about it? Unless the votes he received are fraudulent, he IS the legally elected representative, even if he himself didn't put him on the ballet... isn't he?

    FTFY.

And I think he is, unless those felony charges get in the way. All joking aside, I think in a lot of states you can't have been found guilty of any felonies (as opposed to misdemeanors) in order to legally take public office.

Also, he'd be going up against the incumbent Jim DeMint in the actual election. Even if his win is legit, he's got very little chance of actually getting to the senate.

That's the thing. The evidence is mounting that the election was not legal.

Actually I am not sure about that. I think that if someone were to trace the money back to a third party and were able to show that Mr Greene had no interest in gaining office/was coerced/bribed to do it I believe you can have a court case. I'm not sure though, I am basing this off an interview with a SC DA who had prosecuted somoene in the past for doing this.
