    Web site feedback

I'm looking for feedback here about the Fade site itself.

Do you find things intuitive and easy to navigate?

Do you notice the news posts under the pages?

If you could change anything, what would it be?

Background: I roll everything by hand, in a simple text editor (well, and photoshop). I like that, because it keeps the code and the site from ballooning into something unintuitive. (I do pro web design on the side, for the record.)

Technical: The site works now by loading an entire issue at once, and it uses Javascript to flip through a single issue. When it detects an issue "boundary", it jumps to the next. Why do it this way? It keeps the page from "jumping" when you change the page. In other words, if you've scrolled down, you don't jump back to the top when you hit "Next" or "Previous". The downside is that your browser back and forward buttons don't work--a classic problem with Javascript image replacement. I've played with ways to enable back and forward, including a lot of web 2.0 solutions, but they always feel like overkill. Instead, I just included a Permalink button.

It looks like some of the javascript is busted, I can use any of the navigation buttons (Begin, Previous, etc.) broken in both firefox and IE

This forum is also funky looking in firefox, but thats not your issue.

    EDIT
Actually, previous issues seem to work OK, but issue 5 is not and the "jump to page" combobox is also broken (again only on issue 5).

Weird. I have to look at it under windows. It's working on mac Safari and FF...

Last time that happened, it was an unclosed quote, but I thought I improved the PHP to fix those for me.

Fixed. I forgot to escape the quotes in my page commentary. Oops.

Yeah, AME and Dave just upgraded the forum software. How's it going, by the way?

Guess who I ran into in San Francisco? Eric Miller. It was at a conference, but it was a geology conference, and one with 19,000 attendees. Odd.

    Yeah, that works better.
Another thought, maybe you could link directly to the fade subforum from your sites forum link.

Thinks are going well, still working at EMC, bought a house in May, now I am learning the joys of home ownership.
Crazy that you ran into Eric there, it really does seem to defy the odds.
